We serve men who have been formerly incarcerated to change their attitudes, thinking and behavior so that they can complete probation and stay out of prison.
Meet the Staff
For more than a decade, Amy Barch has been involved in jail programs and reentry work. She has studied various programs throughout the country that attempt to reduce recidivism, learning from them what has worked and what has failed. Amy founded Turning Leaf to offer an opportunity for men to change their life after leaving prison. After work Amy enjoys reading, playing the guitar and spending time with her husband and daughter.
Joe McGrew is the lead classroom facilitator at Turning Leaf. Recognizing how easy it is to make mistakes in life, he has a passion to help those who need and want a real second chance. Joe moved to Charleston from St. Louis in 2014. When he’s not in the classroom teaching, Joe loves to spend time with his kids, work out, and spend time outdoors.
Justin Evans moved from Charlotte, NC to join the Turning Leaf team. He works individually with each student to help them develop skills and reach personal goals. Prior to joining Turning Leaf Justin spent two years running a peer to peer counseling program in inner city Charlotte. After his own run ins with the legal system, Justin desires to help people have the same opportunities he was given. He spends his free time wrestling with his three boys, meditating, and reading.
Colin Landrith is the full time Screen Print Manager. Colin learned screen printing as a hobby from his brother Travis, at his one man family business Charleston Life Screen Printing and soon decided to leave a 10 year career in the restaurant business to pursue that passion. “I have always felt a desire to serve others in my community and Turning Leaf gives me the opportunity to fulfill that need while also allowing me to follow and share my passion for screen printing”.
Aulzue Fields has had a heart of compassion from a young age. However, his choices to be irresponsible lead to a criminal lifestyle. While incarcerated, he would think of his childhood dreams, and wonder how and why he abandoned them! After serving 17 in prison, he immediately enrolled into Turning Leaf, hoping to learn how to readjust and reintegrate into society. Upon completing the program, he was hired as a Peer Specialist with Turning Leaf; where he seeks to educate and inspire those who want to live responsible and crime free.
Adam Burak serves as the Job Developer for Turning Leaf Project and is responsible for creating and fostering relationships with private and public sector employers to place Turning Leaf students in fulfilling and sustainable employment. Adam’s role also includes creating new sales opportunities for Turning Leaf’s in-house screen-printing business. Adam is passionate about working with and advocating for groups of people who may have not had the same opportunities that he was fortunate to have. When Adam is not at work, he enjoys spending time outside enjoying the beauty of the Charleston area, and being around friends and family.
